20th World Jamboree - Thailand 2003

We are very pleased that one of our older Scouts, Alex, has been selected to join the 36 strong Berkshire Contingent at the 20th World Scout Jamboree which will be held from 28th December 2002 - 8th January 2003.

His experiences, not only during the trip but also in the build up too it will be of benefit to the whole Group. He worked very hard to get selected and thoroughly deserved it. Hopefully, some of the younger Cubs and Scouts will follow his progress and learn all about World Wide Scouting and maybe apply next time.

The theme of the 20th World Scout Jamboree 2003 is "Share Our World, Share Our Cultures". Jamborees are held every four years and provide unique opportunity for young Scouts from all around the world to join together to take part in this World Event. The event shows the true spirit of Scouting and allows the Scouts to experience sharing, living and learning our cultural diversity.

Around 30,000 Scouts, Boys and Girls, from all over the World are expected to participate in this event. The scouts will be split up into troops of 40 people. Each troop will have 4 leaders and 36 scouts, broken down into 4 patrols.

Jamboree EmblemThe 20th World Scout Jamboree Emblem shows a typical Thai roof with the World Scout Emblem at the centre. The roof shape represents Thailand, the host country for this major world youth event. The A-shaped gables in the roof represent Thailand's development of traditions and cultures and the sharing of these traditions from generation to generation.

The Jamboree will enable Scouts from around the world to live in peace and harmony under the one roof and under the one spirit, the scouting spirit.

We will keep this page updated with as much information as possible on the training and preparation for the Jamboree. More information can also be found on the 20th World Jamboree Website and also the Berkshire Jamboree Pages where you can find out about both the Berkshire Unit and also how you can get involved. This trip will cost just over £2500 per person, So sponsorship and fundraising is now required to assist him.
