Cub Camp 2002

A game of five-way football before breakfastThis years Cub Camp was the biggest to date, with 33 Cubs attending an exciting weekend of activities and games. We started the camp with a game of Attack the Line in the woods. Some of the Cubs had great fun trying to jump the mud bog in the woods and a few even got stuck in the mud. This was followed by a wide game followed by hot dogs and soup before bed.

Saturday morning was dry and fine, with the Cubs playing five-way football before breakfast. After breakfast and the washing up, we spent the morning in the woods building shelters and making fires. The Cubs had a great time collecting wood and leaves to build the shelters and also finding sticks and wood for the fires. Several very good shelters were constructed throughout the woods and we went on to use the fires at lunchtime to cook our lunch.

The older Beavers were invited to the camp for the afternoon for some activities with the Cubs. They took part in an obstacle course, a tracking excersise where they had to follow a coloured wool trail through the woods and a mini olympic games.

After the Beavers had gone home, we played a game before Dinner. With the washing up completed, we joined 1st Lent Rise and Dorney for a Camp Fire. As always, no campfire would be complete without marshmallows and hot chocolate.

The Cubs were alittle later to rise on Sunday morning. After a large breakfast and the washing up we set about building balisters. These were made from broom handles, lashed together with string. They fired bamboo canes 20-30ft with remarkable accuracy. Baloo, hiding behind a water container was hit several times!! Lunch was pizza and garlic bread cooked in cardboard ovens. It worked really well and they all enjoyed themselves. The afternoon was taken up with playing with the water rocket.
